The Ministry of Finance has announced a major relief for Central Government employees, past retirees, and families of deceased retirees regarding the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
UPS, originally implemented from 1st April 2025, allowed eligible employees and retirees a choice to switch within a specific time frame. The initial deadline of 30th June 2025 was extended till 30th September 2025. Now, considering the positive changes recently introduced under UPS, such as the switch option, benefits on resignation, compulsory retirement, and tax exemptions, the government has further extended the deadline.
New Extended Deadline: Eligible employees can now exercise their option for UPS up to 30th November 2025.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has been directed to make necessary changes in the system and issue circulars to implement this decision.
